I am a COAPE diploma graduate, qualified to consult on behaviour problems in dogs and cats, and a puppy class instructor certified by ThinkingPets.
I established a puppy school in Cape Town and in Johannesburg as well as classes for adolescent puppies and adult dogs who did not have obedience training, or who missed out on socialisation in their sensitive period.
As part of my socialisation programme I implemented dog walking playgroups for 6 years - I thank all the dogs I have worked with for teaching me many valuable lessons in dog behaviour.
At the shelter was walking dogs and managing the “difficult” cases.
My journey of working with animals began when my German Shepherd, Rain, came into my life as a bundle of fluff at the age of 8 weeks old. I fell hopelessly in love and she was my friend, companion and teacher for 13 years. Caring for and training Rain brought on a whole new level of awareness of how wonderful dogs are and ultimately dictated a major career change.
I also have to give so much credit to my two other dogs, Zoe and Jody - rescues, who have taught me patience, the meaning of trust and respect, the value of love and who spurred on my need to help as many misunderstood dogs as I can.
Having adopted Zoe and Jody from a shelter, I immediately saw that assistance was needed and so I started working as a volunteer at the shelter. This gave me the confidence to work with all types of dogs and dogs with all sorts of “problems”. My main task was to walk the dogs and eventually I started focusing on the “difficult” cases - this is when I started delving into animal behaviour and dog training. Also at that time I was introduced to the world of cats and discovered beyond my belief how truly fascinating these creatures are.
My commitment to all the animals out there is to continue improving my knowledge and educating people so that humans and animals can better understand each other.
